Chavelle paints in a traditional style, blocking and developing his subject matter from light to dark. Many layers of oil paint mixed with mineral spirits are applied thinly so that a high degree of realism is achieved and the canvas attains a warm satin glow. Recent work shows his experimentation with a heavily textured painting surface.

Chavelle’s subject matter include European architectural compositions and serenely balanced still lifes.
